Protection

With protection procedures, the Ministry of Culture ascertains the cultural interest of assets and ensures their protection and conservation, to hand them on to future generations and guarantee public enjoyment.

What it includes

This section includes:

  • verifications of cultural interest;
  • authorisations for works and restoration;
  • authorisation for alienation (sale);
  • authorisations for advertising signs on protected assets.

Who it is for

Public bodies, private non-profit entities and owners, holders or keepers involved in protection procedures.

How it works

Log in to the portal

Log in to the portal with your digital identity: SPID, CIE, CNS or eIDAS (for EU citizens). Non-EU citizens without a digital identity can register on the portal with an e-mail and password and log in with the credentials they create.

Choose the procedure

Select the procedure you need from those available.

Fill and attach

Complete the guided application and attach the required documents; you can save a draft and resume later.

Submit and track

Submit the application: you receive a protocol number and a confirmation. Track its status from your personal area, with notifications at every update.

Outcomes

Depending on the procedure, you receive:

  • for verifications of cultural interest, a positive assessment (the asset is recognised as being of cultural interest and remains subject to protection) or a notice that no cultural interest exists (the asset is not protected);
  • for authorisations (works and restoration, alienation, advertising signs), the authorisation, possibly with conditions, or a reasoned refusal.

All measures are recorded with a protocol number and can be viewed in your personal area.

Payments, if any

Some procedures require the payment of fees, taxes or duties. Where required, you can pay online securely through PagoPA.
